Bench dip
The bench dip is an effective upper-body exercise primarily targeting the triceps, while also engaging the chest, shoulders, and core. By positioning your hands behind you on a bench and lowering your body, you isolate the triceps to build strength and muscle definition. This exercise is a great addition to any workout routine that aims to enhance upper body strength.
To perform a bench dip, sit on the edge of a bench with your hands placed shoulder-width apart, fingers facing forward. Extend your legs out in front of you and place your heels on the floor. Slowly lower your body by bending your elbows to a 90-degree angle, keeping your back close to the bench. Push your body back up to the starting position, ensuring that your elbows remain tucked in to maintain tension on the triceps.
One of the key benefits of bench dips is their versatility; they can be modified to suit varying fitness levels. Beginners can keep their feet flat on the ground, while more advanced users can elevate their feet on another bench or exercise platform for added challenge. Incorporating bench dips into your routine can improve overall arm strength, enhance muscle tone, and increase functional fitness for daily activities.
Tips:
Keep your elbows close to your body to focus on the triceps.
Maintain a straight back and avoid rounding your shoulders.
Control your movements to prevent swinging or jerking.
Breathe out when pushing up and inhale when lowering down.
Start with a limited range of motion if you're new to the exercise.
