Yoga mat
A yoga mat gives you a lightly cushioned, grippy surface between your body and the floor. It is long and narrow, with enough room to lie down, kneel, stand, or move between positions. In use, it feels steadier than a bare floor and more comfortable under your hands, knees, back, and feet.
You can use it for gentle mobility, balance practice, movements for your stomach and back, and flowing yoga sequences. It supports standing positions such as chair pose and balancing stick, floor-based movements such as crunches and bridges, and hands-and-knees practice such as bird dog or cat-cow. The grip helps you change position with more control, while the thin cushioning keeps you connected to the floor.
It suits you if you want a simple base for home movement, whether you are new to yoga or building a regular routine. A mat needs enough clear floor space to unroll, but it stores compactly when rolled.
