Weighted belt

Dip belt

Worn around your waist, a weighted belt has a broad padded or sturdy strap, with a chain or webbing loop that holds an added load between your legs. You fasten it snugly, then move with the load hanging below your hips. It can feel less restrictive than carrying weight on your torso, though the hanging load may sway until you learn to keep it steady.

You mainly use it to make bodyweight movements such as dips, pull-ups and chin-ups more demanding once those movements feel controlled on their own. The belt keeps your hands free and places the added load below you, so you can practise pushing and pulling while maintaining a steady body position. Some people also use it for belt squats when a suitable platform and attachment are available.

It suits you if you already feel comfortable supporting and lifting your body on bars and want an adjustable next step. The belt itself takes little storage space, although you need suitable bars and enough clearance for the load to hang safely. You can change the difficulty by attaching more or less load. Before moving, check that every fastening is secure; a snugly fitted backpack can offer a simpler alternative.
