Stride machine
A stride machine has two long foot platforms that move back and forth, often with upright handles that travel with you. You stay standing as your feet follow a smooth, gliding path. The movement feels similar to brisk walking with a longer step, while the handles give you support and bring your arms into the rhythm.
You use it for steady indoor movement that raises your breathing without the repeated landing of running. By changing your pace or the machine’s resistance, you can make a session gentler or more demanding. Moving the handles works your shoulders and arms alongside your legs, while holding fixed grips lets you focus more closely on your lower body.
It suits you if you want an indoor option for regular movement without hard landings and prefer standing to sitting on a machine. It needs a clear floor area and some height above you, so check your room before starting. Resistance and pace are usually simple to adjust. Walking outdoors or marching at home offers an accessible alternative if space is limited.
