Speed sled

Low to the ground, a speed sled has a sturdy metal frame, smooth runners and upright handles, often with a central post for adding plates. You push the handles or attach a strap and pull it behind you. It does not roll freely, so you feel steady resistance from the floor rather than a sudden swing or bounce.

You can use it for short pushes, backward drags and controlled pulls, moving at a walk or a quicker pace. These movements train your legs, hips, shoulders and grip while also raising your breathing. Because the sled follows a straight path, it lets you focus on firm steps and a comfortable body position without learning a complicated sequence.

It suits you if you enjoy simple, whole-body movement and have access to a long, clear stretch of suitable flooring or outdoor ground. The load is easy to scale by adding or removing plates, though friction changes across surfaces. Start by learning the handles and straps at a controlled pace. If space is limited, hill walking offers a simpler everyday alternative.
