Shoulder press machine
With a shoulder press machine, you sit against a supportive back pad and push a pair of handles upwards. The guided arms keep the movement on a fixed path, so it can feel steady and straightforward. Depending on the design, you may adjust the seat, choose the resistance, and use separate or linked handles.
You use it to build strength around your shoulders and arms while your body stays supported. Pressing the handles overhead also asks your upper back and middle to help you stay comfortably positioned. The machine is useful for learning an overhead pushing motion, and changing the resistance lets you make the movement gentler or more demanding.
It can suit you if you prefer a seated, guided exercise or feel unsure about balancing free weights overhead. Machines are usually easy to scale by changing the resistance, though adjusting the seat correctly may take a little practice. They occupy considerable floor space, so they are more common in gyms; at home, light dumbbells or a resistance band offer a simpler alternative.
