Sandbag
Soft-sided and usually fitted with handles, a sandbag shifts slightly as you lift, carry or lower it. That movement asks you to stay controlled without making the bag feel complicated. Its fabric shell is less rigid than a dumbbell, though a full bag can still feel bulky, especially when you hold it close to your chest.
You can use it for steady strength and whole-body movement, including lifting it from the floor, standing up while holding it, pressing it overhead and carrying it across a room. Because the filling moves, you also practise keeping your balance and grip as the load changes. It works well for simple sessions with plenty of exercise variety.
It suits beginners and intermediate users who want adaptable training without a large machine. You need enough clear floor space to lift and carry it safely, but the bag itself is easy to store. Many designs can be filled to different levels, making the load easier to scale. A securely closed backpack filled with soft items can be a practical alternative.
