Kettlebell
With its rounded body and sturdy handle, a kettlebell feels compact but slightly different from a dumbbell. Its centre of mass sits below your hand, so it can swing and shift as you move. You can hold the handle with one or both hands, and the smooth grip rewards calm, controlled handling.
It supports strength and whole-body movement through squats, rows, overhead presses and floor-based exercises. Swinging movements let you practise driving through your legs and hips, while slower movements build control around your shoulders, arms, stomach and back. Because the handle can pass between hands, you can also link movements together in a smooth, flowing way.
A kettlebell suits you if you want one compact tool for varied strength practice, though swinging it safely needs clear space around you. The load is fixed, so scaling usually means choosing another kettlebell or changing the movement. Start by learning secure grips and controlled paths before faster exercises. A dumbbell can replace it for many presses, rows and squats.
