Jump box

A jump box is a sturdy raised platform, usually square or rectangular, with a flat landing surface. You step or jump onto it, so using one feels more active and focused than floor-based exercise. Boxes may be wooden, padded, or firm foam, and some offer different heights when turned onto another side.

You can use it for jumping practice, step-ups, supported squats, raised push-ups, or controlled step-downs. These movements can build strength in your legs and hips, improve coordination, and add variety to a simple home routine. The platform also gives you a clear target, which can make learning to land softly and move with control easier.

It suits you if you want approachable strength and movement practice and feel comfortable stepping onto a stable surface. Start with a low height, check that the box cannot slide, and leave clear space around it. Height changes are simple on multi-sided designs, though the box itself can be bulky. A sturdy bottom stair can work for step-based movements, but not jumping.
