Horizontal leg press

Leg press machine

You sit in a supported seat with your back against a pad and your feet on a broad platform. The horizontal leg press guides the platform or seat along a fixed track as you push away and return. It feels stable and controlled, with handles and padding helping you stay comfortably positioned throughout the movement.

It lets you strengthen your thighs, the back of your legs and your bottom while the machine supports your upper body. You press through your feet to straighten your legs, then bend them with control. Changing your foot position can slightly shift where you feel the effort, while the guided path makes the motion straightforward to learn.

This machine suits you if you want a supported way to build leg strength without balancing equipment. It is large and stays in one place, so it fits a gym better than a small home. You can scale the resistance and adjust the seat. Start gently, check that your knees move in the same direction as your toes, or practise sitting down and standing up from a sturdy chair instead.
