Earthquake bar
Bamboo bar
Long and deliberately flexible, an earthquake bar bends and quivers as you move it. Loads are usually suspended from the bar with elastic bands, so they sway rather than staying fixed. You feel frequent, small changes in balance through your hands, shoulders and middle. The bar itself is light, but controlling the movement can feel unfamiliar at first.
It is used for slow, controlled strength practice where steadiness matters more than moving a heavy load. You can press it while lying on a bench or standing, hold it overhead, carry it, or use it for gentle squatting movements. Because the hanging load keeps shifting, you have to stay attentive and guide the bar smoothly throughout each movement.
It can suit you if you already feel comfortable with basic lifting movements and want to practise control with lighter loads. You need about the same floor and overhead clearance as for a standard barbell, plus room for the hanging loads to swing. You can scale it by changing the suspended load or bands, but learn to secure them properly. A broom handle is a simpler balance-only alternative.
