Cable machine
Tall upright columns, adjustable pulleys and a cable connected to a stack of plates give you many possible pulling angles. You select the resistance with a pin, attach a handle and move against the smooth tension of the cable. The machine can look complex at first, but the controls are usually straightforward once you identify the pulley adjustment, clip and selector pin.
It supports controlled strength training for your back, shoulders, arms and middle, with resistance that stays present through much of each movement. Changing the pulley height or handle also lets you practice presses, pulls and turning movements from different directions.
It suits you if you want adjustable resistance and prefer guided, steady movements while learning. A full machine takes considerable floor and head space, though changing the load is generally quick. Start with a light setting so you can learn the clips, pulley locks and your position without strain. Resistance bands anchored securely to a door or sturdy post can offer a simpler, space-saving alternative.
