Cable crossover machine
Two tall uprights with adjustable pulleys stand on either side of an open central space, linked by a sturdy frame. You attach handles or a bar to the cables, then move against a smooth, steady pull. Because the resistance comes from the side, above, or below, it can feel more controlled than lifting a loose object.
You can use it for steady strength training across much of your body. Bringing the handles together works your chest and shoulders, while pulling them towards you involves your upper back and arms. Lower settings suit movements for your legs and hips, and a single handle lets you train one side at a time or practise controlled turning and reaching.
It suits you if you value guided resistance and plenty of exercise options, though the large frame needs a dedicated area and room to move between its sides. Pulley height and resistance are usually straightforward to change, so you can begin gently. Ask for help with attachments and stance at first. Resistance bands anchored securely can offer a simpler, space-saving alternative.
