Barbell pad
A barbell pad wraps around the centre of a barbell, adding a layer of firm cushioning between the metal and your body. It is usually a short foam tube with a slit or fastening that holds it in place. You may notice less concentrated pressure, though the bar can feel slightly thicker and less direct.
You can use it when the bar rests across your shoulders during squats, or across your hips during hip raises from the floor or a bench. The padding can make these movements feel more approachable while you learn where to position the bar. It does not change the resistance, so your movement stays familiar.
It suits you if direct bar pressure distracts you from otherwise comfortable squats or hip raises. It takes very little storage space and is usually quick to fasten, remove and reposition. Start by checking that it is centred and secure, since padding can slightly change your sense of the bar’s position. A folded towel is a simple alternative for floor-based hip raises, but may shift.
