Balance board

A balance board gives you a small, raised surface that tips or rolls beneath your feet. Depending on the design, it may sit on a rounded base, rocker, or separate roller. Using one feels lively and slightly unpredictable, so you make frequent small adjustments to stay centred. A nearby wall or sturdy chair can provide reassurance while you learn.

You can use a balance board for gentle balance practice, coordination, and steadier control through your feet, legs, and middle. Standing on it is the usual starting point, while small side-to-side tilts, shallow knee bends, or carefully turning your upper body add variety. It can also make familiar movements feel less stable, encouraging you to slow down and move with attention.

It suits you if you want an engaging way to practise balance at home without needing much room. The difficulty is easy to scale by holding support, keeping both feet wide, or choosing a board with limited tilt. Start on a clear, non-slip floor and step off if you lose control. A folded towel can offer simpler, gentler instability without extra equipment.
